MSF: «Catastrophic situation in Gaza, urgent need for massive influx of aid»
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) calls for «a massive increase in life-saving aid and unhindered humanitarian access to deal with the ongoing catastrophe in Gazawhere people continue to die due to the incessant violence and persistent restrictions on aid imposed by the Israeli authorities.” «Despite these policies, MSF – we read in a note – is determined to remain and provide assistance in the Occupied Palestinian Territories for as long as possible, operating thanks to its registration with the Palestinian Authority».
«Under international humanitarian law, As the occupying power, the Israeli authorities are required to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance – continues the MSF statement – However, the new restrictive rules, which require 37 NGOs to leave the Occupied Palestinian Territories by March 1, 2026, they threaten to drastically reduce already insufficient aid. Governments around the world must ensure compliance with the decisions of the International Court of Justice, including to facilitate the provision of humanitarian assistance.”
«MSF is trying to maintain services for patients in an increasingly difficult context – says Christopher Lockyear, general secretary of MSF – The needs are enormous and the drastic restrictions have deadly consequences. Hundreds of thousands of patients need medical care and psychological assistance, while tens of thousands of people require continuous and long-term care, both surgical and psychological.”
All this after two years of incessant bombings and attacks, which razed over 80 percent of the Strip and killed over 70,000 Palestinians, almost all civilians, more than half of them minors and over 20,000 children.
