The government council is applying to the Grand Council for a loan of 30.625 million francs. This is intended to implement the redesign of the west entrance to the Ballenberg open-air museum, as the cantonal education and culture directorate (BKD) announced.

The open-air museum attracts around 200,000 visitors from all over Switzerland and the world every year. It is one of the five cultural institutions of “national importance” in the canton of Bern.

The museum has two entrances, one of which is in the west, in the municipality of Hofstetten near Brienz. This entrance no longer meets today’s requirements as an arrival, public and service area. As the Education and Culture Directorate of the Canton of Bern writes in a media release.

As part of the redesign, it will be adapted to the current needs of both groups and individual visitors. With the integration of a central collection depot and a display case that can be viewed all year round, the functionality and attractiveness of the Ballenberg open-air museum are further strengthened.
