Two people have died in that which is the worst fire of the year so far in Spain. There is already warned: “The fires of now are not like the ones before, it will be a complicated summer”
A column of smoke and ashes over 14 kilometers high is at the center of a meteorological phenomenon that surprised Spain.
In such a way that the guardian of the interior of Catalonia, Núria Parlon, left two expressions that show well the size of the fire: “surpassed human capacity for extinction” with “never -viewed speed”.
The phenomenon spoken here is a pyrocumulus, a dense cloud that results from the smoke of large fires or volcanic activity. In this case it was the first scenario, with the one that Spain already classifies from the first big fire of summer, with special incidence in Léida.
A column of smoke that moved 30 kilometers per hour – one of the highest values ever recorded in Europe – and was able to generate its own meteorology, causing strong gusts of wind up to 125 kilometers per hour.
This Wednesday, and after all the combat, firefighters gave the fire as controlling, even though they continue work to try to avoid rekindles.
Without prejudice to the success in being able to combat the phenomenon, the fire rolled nearly six thousand hectares in a few hours, still causing two deaths and strikes Catalonia in a very specific way that shows the strength of the so -called “sixth generation fires”.
“The fires of now are not like the ones before, it will be a complicated summer,” lamented the president of Generalitat, Salvador Illa, who spent these days with firefighters and civil protection.
In Portugal, and despite the heat wave that also passed by, there was nothing so serious to register – the fire in Aljustrel consumed over a thousand hectares, yet.
