Microsoft Xbox announced on the 12th that it unveiled the detailed vision for its next-generation first-party console ‘Project Helix’ at ‘GDC 2026’ in San Francisco, USA.

According to Jason Ronald, vice president of Xbox’s next-generation division, Project Helix is designed to allow both Xbox console titles and PC games to be played on a single device. Xbox plans to distribute alpha version development kits for next-generation hardware to game developers starting next year.

Xbox has signed a multi-year partnership with AMD to improve hardware performance. Project Helix is equipped with a custom AMD system-on-chip (SoC). It is the result of a joint design between the two companies to optimize for next-generation DirectX and FSR technologies.

Plans for backward compatibility support were also announced. Xbox supports playing existing Xbox games released over the past four generations on next-generation devices. In addition, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the brand’s launch later this year, we plan to introduce additional ways to experience new iconic titles from the past.
