Thyssenkrupp Automation Sale: Agile Robots Acquisition

The industrial group Thyssenkrupp is selling parts of its automation business. The Munich-based company Agile Robots is taking over assets of the plant manufacturer Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering in Europe and North America, which were previously part of the Automotive Technology segment of Thyssenkrupp AG, the companies announced on Monday.

Agile Robots emphasized that it wanted to use the acquisition to expand its market position in the area of ​​next-generation smart automation solutions. Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering has technological expertise, long-standing customer relationships and decades of experience, particularly in the automotive industry.

Agile Robots was founded in 2018 by robotics researchers from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Munich. According to the company, more than 2,500 robot and AI experts are currently working at locations in Germany, China and India. With the takeover of Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, the team will grow by around 650 experts. Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering’s sales in 2024 were in the three-digit million range.
