The 2nd edition of the Days of the Ivorian Society of Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) is being held from December 3 to 6 in Yamoussoukro and Bouaké. Placed under the theme “The ear from A to Z”, these scientific days are marked by humanitarian surgeries, deafness screening sessions as well as a gala dinner intended to celebrate 10 years of cochlear implant surgeries in Ivory Coast.
The start was given at the Saint Joseph Moscati Catholic hospital in Yamoussoukro. The president of the organizing committee, Professor Kouassi Judith, indicated, during a press briefing, that on December 3 and 4, the Moscati hospital, the CHR, the Energy Clinic and the Grace des Lacs Clinic will welcome patients from Yamoussoukro. As for patients from Bouaké, they will have to go to the University Hospital and the Jean Baptiste Vatelo Clinic to benefit from this free humanitarian operation.
“In total, 120 patients with pathologies falling within our specialty – notably goiter, nose and ear diseases – will benefit from this treatment,” she said. According to her, the selection was made since September, following consultations and diagnoses made in people suffering from ENT conditions. “We will make the effort, during these two days, to take care of the 120 patients selected for the operation. They can be reassured, because follow-up will be provided until they recover,” she added.
Professor Kouassi Judith also detailed the rest of the program: a free screening on December 4, and on December 5, an extension day devoted to knowledge of the ear (functioning, constitution, frequent diseases and methods of treatment). “Our objective is to reach out to populations through a community health approach and above all to raise awareness, in order to facilitate rapid treatment in the event of pain,” she concluded.
