LAWRENCE — After suffering a non-contact injury during practice last week, the prognosis for Bangally Kamara doesn’t look promising for Kansas football ahead of its game at Missouri on Saturday.

KU coach Lance Leipold outlined Kamara, a redshirt senior linebacker, did not practice Monday. The same goes for sophomore offensive lineman Jack Tanner. Kamara was set to start this past week’s game at home against Wagner, before that injury, and Tanner is someone who is capable of providing depth for the Jayhawks (2-0) at left tackle when available.

“They’re not on the depth chart, so you can probably figure where that’s trending for both,” Leipold said.

Kansas features enough depth along the offensive line that it should be able to manage Tanner’s absence, with redshirt sophomore Calvin Clements as a starter at left tackle and redshirt freshman Carter Lavrusky sliding in as his backup. There are further options the Jayhawks can turn toward if necessary, with redshirt seniors Enrique Cruz Jr. and Nolan Gorczyca at right tackle. But Kamara’s absence is much more difficult to deal with.

While redshirt freshman linebacker Jon Jon Kamara is poised to start again, given his teammate’s injury, as Leipold detailed this rivalry game will likely see him play more than he has before in a KU uniform. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Logan Brantley will be another name to know here. The depth the Jayhawks came into the fall with at the position will be challenged, especially with senior Joseph Sipp Jr. and redshirt senior Jayson Gilliom each having already missed the first two games of the year.
