The US State Department has urged American citizens to leave Russia immediately, reports Fox News.
The move comes after the US this week renewed its warning against travel to the Russian Federation, with the State Department citing high risks related to terrorism, wrongful detention and “arbitrary enforcement of local laws” as reasons.
This is happening against the background of the escalation of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which is already in its fourth year.
“Officials are limited in their ability to assist Americans as the embassy in Moscow has reduced staff and consulates in Russia have closed,” the State Department said in a statement. From there they appeal: “American citizens in Russia must leave immediately.”
