Trump pointed out that the United States can try to negotiate to end the Ukrainian crisis without the need for a truce that stops fighting.

For his part, Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski said he was ready for a triple dialogue that includes Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added, “After stopping the war, we will need to develop the capabilities of the Ukrainian army.”

Russia’s comment on the meeting

Regarding Russia’s response to the meetings, the Russian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitry Poliannski, told United Nations correspondents that “what everyone hopes” is that President Trump’s meetings with the President of Ukraine and European leaders “in the same way” like the American leader’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last Friday will run last Friday.

He said that Trump acknowledged that his meeting with Putin opened “an opportunity to achieve long -term peace“.

“We strongly welcome such a scenario“. He added: “We hope that the Ukrainian leadership, instead of thinking about saving itself, will think of its people who do not want to fight, and is ready for peace – a just, fair and permanent peace. This is what Russia is seeking to achieve in Ukraine for many years.”.
