Sony has just delivered an important firmware update for the WF-1000xm5, whose complete details we have covered separately. Offered next to an equivalent for WH-1000xm6 (currently $ 448 on Amazon), version 6.0.0 for Sony high-end wireless headphones could be the last one before moving on to WF-1000xm6.
Recently an early certification indicated that we may not see the successor of the WF-1000XM5 before the beginning of next year. Now, the WF-1000XM6 has appeared in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) anticipating the expectations of The Walkman Blog. Unfortunately, for now the design of the next pair of Sony wireless headphones is unknown.
Instead, the FCC reports that the WF-1000XM6 incorporate antennas manufactured by Goertek and a 3.85 V battery. In addition, the initial documentation of the regulatory body mentions the inclusion of a mediatek chipset. At the moment, The Walkman Blog has deduced that this chipset is the same MT2885 that is found in Sony’s Linkbud headphones. In any case, the presence of a mediatek chipset would prevent the WF-1000XM6 from being compatible with Qualcomm Aptx codecs. Unfortunately, at this point it is not yet clear if Sony will get the WF-1000XM6 for sale before the Christmas season.
