Russian President Vladimir Putin showed his closeness to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Putin even greeted Modi as ‘Dear Friend’.
Reported by the Reuters news agency on Monday (1/9/2025), on the sidelines of the SCO meeting in Tianjin Port City, China, Modi took Putin’s hand as they walked towards Chinese President Xi Jinping. The three smiled while speaking, surrounded by translators.
Then, Modi uploaded a photo on X that showed himself and Putin in the Aurus armored limousine used by the Russian leader.

Putin regularly traveled with Aurus on overseas visits and occasionally offered an affair to other countries or even awarded the vehicle, as he did to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in 2024.
“Even in the most difficult situation, India and Russia always work together,” Modi said.
“Our close cooperation is important not only for the people of the two countries, but also for peace, stability, and global prosperity,” he continued.
Not only that, at the bilateral meeting, Putin greeted Modi in Russian as, “Dear Mr. Prime Minister, a kind friend,” Putin said.
“Russia and India have been in special relations for decades, friendly, and mutual trust. This is the foundation for the development of our relationships in the future,” he added.
Modi said she welcomed the latest efforts that aim to stop the war in Ukraine as soon as possible. On Saturday, Modi reiterated her support for peaceful settlement through telephone conversations with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said the Modi office.
“Conduct an extraordinary meeting with President Putin,” Modi said on Monday, adding that they had discussed cooperation “in all sectors, including trade, fertilizer, space, security, and culture.”
“Our special and special strategic partnership remains an important pillar of regional and global stability,” Modi said.
