NYC Marathon Doping Scandal | Runner Disqualifications

by Archynetys Economy Desk

On Sunday thousands will enter the TCS New York City Marathon. Ruth Chepngetichthe current world record holder for women in the distance, won’t be among them. Ms. Chepngetich, of Kenya, was provisionally suspended from competition in July after testing positive for a drug that masks performance-enhancing substances. This month sports authorities banned her from competing for three years.

Ms. Chepngetich’s story exemplifies the doping problem in elite distance running. It hurts the sport, poses challenges to clean athletes, and harms those who engage in it.
