Unlike other Ford commercial models, this van was not built in the US or Europe. This is the result of close cooperation with the Chinese partner JMC.
Adapted to the European market, the Transit City uses an Asian platform developed specifically for electric vehicles and shares most of the exterior body details with the original JMC Touring model.
However, in order to maintain visual integrity with other cars of the brand, the designers installed specific, European-style front grills and bumpers.
The new work tool will be offered in three different body types, from a short wheelbase van to a chassis with a cab.
Thanks to this variety, business companies will be able to easily adapt the vehicle to their specific needs by additionally installing tipper or cargo refrigeration equipment.
Rational engineering solutions and fast charging
Despite the orientation of the budget class, the engineers ensured that this model performed its main function – to transport heavy loads without difficulty.
The average base model has a payload of 1,275 kilograms, which is a very solid figure for a van of this type.
The front wheels are turned by a 150 hp electric motor, which is powered by a 56 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
Although the range of 254 kilometers per charge may seem modest, such a reserve is quite sufficient in urban delivery conditions.
By choosing a smaller capacity and cheaper battery, manufacturers were able to drastically reduce production costs and ensure longer battery life.
In addition, if you run out of energy during an intensive work shift, by connecting the van to a fast charging station, you can charge energy for an additional 50 kilometers of travel in just ten minutes, and the battery reserves up to 80 percent in half an hour.
Aggressive pricing
The driver’s workplace is designed according to strict minimalism, rejecting any superfluous elements that could increase the final price of the product.
Buyers will no longer have to navigate through complex configurators or choose from dozens of additional equipment packages – Transit City is sold with a single, fixed package.
The cabin is equipped with a 12.3-inch touch screen with a wireless smartphone pairing function, a heated driver’s seat and a rear view camera, which ensures safe maneuvering in tight apartment yards or industrial areas.
According to car market experts, the biggest advantage of this model will be its starting price, which should reach around 34,800 euros.
