Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPR Dede Yusuf hopes that the corruption case that ensnared Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq will be a lesson for all regional heads. Dede Yusuf insinuated that Fadia Arafiq should learn the rules because he is already the incumbent.

“I think anyone who wants to become a regional head must understand bureaucracy, must study administration, and must also study laws, including laws related to regional government, especially if they have been incumbent several times,” said Dede Yusuf when contacted, Thursday (5/3/2026).

He said this case could be a lesson for other regional heads. “I think this is a lesson for every regional head,” he added.

He also touched on the importance of political party cadre formation for regional head candidates. So, regional head candidates can understand what is permitted and prohibited.

“That is also why there is a need for a political party cadre system for regional head candidates, namely first understanding what is permitted and what is not permitted according to statutory regulations,” he said.

Fadia Arafiq claims he doesn’t understand the rules

Previously reported, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that the Regent of Pekalongan, Fadia Arafiq, admitted that he did not understand bureaucracy because he had a background as a dangdut musician. Fadia admitted that he only carried out a ceremonial function.

“FAR admitted that technical bureaucratic matters were handed over to the Regional Secretary (Sekda), while he carried out more ceremonial functions within Pekalongan Regency,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu in a press conference at the Red and White Building, Jakarta, quoted on Thursday (5/3).

Asep said Fadia should understand bureaucratic matters because he served in his second term as regent. He said the regent should understand the principles of good governance in regional government.

“Moreover, FAR was a Regent or State Administrator for two terms and once served as Deputy Regent for the 2011-2016 period. So, FAR should understand the implementation of the principles of good governance in regional governments,” he said.
