Since electric cars lose to internal combustion engines in terms of mileage and “charging” speed, proponents of “green ideas” have proposed a new, radical solution. They propose to artificially slow down the speed of refueling at gas stations.

The roots of this apparent joke lie in the fundamental and still intractable laws of physics.

There is still a technological gap between gasoline and batteries. Even the most modern Ferrari electric car, trying to replicate a gas tank with a capacity of just 30 liters, has to carry a battery weighing 625 kilograms. In comparison, a 60-liter fuel tank with its full contents weighs less than 60 kg. The difference is twenty times.

Since this chasm cannot be bridged quickly, the Electrek portal has come up with a new idea. The proposal is to change the current safety requirements in the US, which limit the speed of fuel flow, and reduce it by more than three times.

This would mean that the owner of a large pickup would spend ten minutes or more at the speaker instead of taking a few minutes. And queues would make the whole process even slower and more annoying.

This proposal perfectly illustrates the thinking of a certain part of society, which is based not on the principle of “equal opportunity” but on the principle of “equal results”.

Instead of allowing different technologies to compete freely in the market and the best to win, they decide in advance what the “right” outcome is, and then create rules that artificially penalize the superior technology.

The question is, what’s next? Maybe the size of fuel tanks will be limited? Or maybe, in order to equalize the weight, gasoline cars will be forced to carry several hundred kilograms of lead? Or maybe, to be completely fair, the cars should be left at the gas station in the evening and picked up only in the morning?
