Carlos Nassar’s world title prize from Norway has now been translated. The rest of our weightlifting competitors and coaches will also receive their money in the coming days.
The reason for the delay was the lack of a decision by the governing board of the federation, which happened a few days ago. The amounts that the Ministry of Youth and Sports must pay to weightlifters and their coaches were then approved.
Carlos became the world champion in Fjord for the third time, doing so at the youngest age for a Bulgarian weightlifter since Ivan Ivanov, who became a 3-time champion at 20 years old. On top of that, he did it in a third weight class.
Now, Nassar has to adapt to a new weight class again after the international federation touched everyone a little because of the Olympics in Los Angeles. The new one is 95 kilograms, which is actually quite good for Carlos, because in Norway he weighed under 93 kilograms at a maximum weight of 96.
The new categories come into effect from August 1 next year, when the qualifications for the next Olympics also begin. The world standards that must be improved to become official records are also yet to be determined.
Next year’s European Championship will be in the old categories. It will take place from April 19 to 26 in the Georgian resort of Batumi. The world will be held in the fall in the Chinese city of Ningbo, with no dates yet set for the competition by the international federation. (24 hours)
