Boyko Rashkov: Acting Interior Minister Role?

by Archynetys News Desk

Boyko Rashkov announced that he would accept to become acting minister of the interior again. The deputy from “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) commented on the topic to TV1.

On the occasion of the speculations that Andrey Gyurov will be acting prime minister and the appointment of Rashkov as the future interior minister, the national representative was asked if he would accept the post.

“I would responsibly accept such a proposal and I hope that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will cope with the tasks ahead of it,” Boyko Rashkov answered.

“But, of course, these are some future actions that are expected by the whole society, and I think it is not very appropriate to comment in advance on what actually occurs in the public space,” he added.

“24 Chasa” wrote already on Monday that it was Rashkov’s name that was put forward for the post and that it is planned that the deputy governor of the BNB, Andrey Gyurov, will become the acting prime minister, despite his controversial status in the house book.

After being asked if it is clear what he should do if he becomes interior minister, Rashkov stated:

“Of course, that’s more than clear.”

When asked if he could be removed from the National Assembly, he replied that by law a minister cannot be an MP at the same time.

When asked if he could run for parliament, he answered as follows:

“No, the outlook is clear,” he explained. “Most likely, an interim cabinet will be formed next week, or within ten days. When this issue is resolved – who has agreed to participate in such an interim government, he cannot at the same time run for office and enter lists for a representative of the people, and this is known by law. So we have no hesitation here.”

There is no legal ban on serving ministers running for parliament, but the practice is that they do not do so.

Boyko Rashkov was interior minister in three governments – two official and one regular – in the period May 2021 – August 2022.

While Rashkov was Minister of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested Boyko Borisov. The arrest was subsequently declared illegal.
