After the Russian-American summit in Alaska, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj wants to talk to US President Donald Trump about further steps on the way to ending the Ukraine War on Monday. He is accompanied by European allies, including EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, France President Emmanuel Macron, the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Finnish President Alexander Stubb also announced their participation. Before the meeting, Selenskyj claimed security guarantees based on NATO’s model for his country. According to the US specialist Steve Witkoff, there is a promise of assistance that is similar to that within NATO and that the United States and European countries could give, but not as part of the defense alliance.

In the night of Monday, the Kremlin made its consent to security guarantees for Ukraine of credible assurances for its own security. This was explained by the Russian envoy at the international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Uljanow, on the platform X. Russia voice of the demand for many EU countries for guarantees for Ukraine, but has the same right to expect effective security guarantees for Moscow.

After his meeting with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, Trump had moved away from his central demand for a ceasefire as a condition for peace negotiations. Instead, he wants to talk directly about a peace agreement in Putin. The ideas about it are still far apart. Among other things, Russia demands that Ukraine do without areas, which Selenskyj categorically rejects.
