Fatal Encounter: Woman Nearly Killed in Brutal Attack Over Taxi

In a shocking incident that has left a community on edge, Bethany Lockyer faced a life-threatening attack outside a pub in Poole, Dorset. The attack, which involved Sharnice Summer slashing Bethany’s neck with a broken bottle, occurred amidst a heated altercation over a taxi.

The Night of Attack

On March 1, following a night at the Churchill pub, tensions escalated between Summer and Bethany Lockyer. Summer had entered Bethany’s pre-booked taxi, leading to a confrontation. When Summer refused to leave the vehicle, she became increasingly antagonistic towards Bethany and her group.

Summarily, Summer smashed a bottle against the wall, causing it to shatter. She then used a shard of the broken bottle to slash at Bethany’s neck, narrowly missing the jugular vein by just 2 millimeters. Bethany ran screaming into the pub as blood gushed from her neck, momentarily losing consciousness.

Bethany’s Immediate Response and Recovery

Bethany’s sister-in-law bravely intervened, applying tea towels to control the bleeding. Emergency services rushed her to the hospital where she received stitches for an 8-centimeter long wound. Despite the severity of her injuries, Bethany managed to survive, though the physical and emotional scars persist.

Bethany shared her anguish in a victim impact statement, emphasizing the triggering of her PTSD and the anxiety that has led her to avoid crowds and limit social activities. She remains upset by the sentence imposed on Summer, saying it does not come close to justice.

“The ambulance crew said if it had been two millimetres to the left I would have been dead. That was terrifying. She messaged me on the day of the court case calling me a liar and said she had never stabbed me. I’m not happy about the sentence, she has been allowed to walk free while I was left for dead. It doesn’t feel like it’s enough,” Bethany Lockyer stated.

Jurisdiction and Defense

At Bournemouth Crown Court, prosecutors detailed Summer’s aggressive behavior, describing her as “bolshy” and a clear threat to the group. They highlighted the danger posed by using a jagged shard of glass as a weapon, noting the severity of Bethany’s wound, which, while stitched, left a permanent scar.
