Al-Marsad newspaper: US Vice President J.D. Vance warned of the rise of “political Islam” and described it as a threat to nuclear Europe.
Disastrous scenario
He said in an interview with the British website “Unheard” that the European nuclear powers, such as France or the United Kingdom, may be subjected within 15 years to a catastrophic scenario that is “not unlikely” under the influence of leaders “close to political Islam,” and this constitutes a direct threat to the United States.
Certain ethical debates with Europe
He added: “We have much stronger cultural, religious and economic ties to Europe than anywhere else in the world. That is the nature of things. And so I think we will have certain ethical discussions with Europe that we may not have, for example, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, because there is this sense of shared history and shared cultural values.”
Nuclear weapons
He continued: “And to link this to a more specific or direct American interest, France and the United Kingdom possess nuclear weapons. If they allow themselves to be drawn into extremely destructive moral ideas, they are thereby allowing nuclear weapons to fall into the hands of people capable of causing serious harm to the United States.”
Islamists
In response to UnHerd‘s question about “what kind of ideas?”, the US Vice President said: “I think that there are, for example, people who are loyal to Islamists or with Islamic tendencies currently holding positions in European countries. Perhaps at a very low level now, right? They win mayoral elections, or municipal elections.”
