Ukraine has initiated the deployment of long-range ballistic missiles, covertly supplied by the US, against invading Russian forces, as confirmed by American officials.
The US President Joe Biden approved a $300 million (£240 million) aid package in March, with the missiles arriving this month and already being utilized to target Russian positions in occupied Crimea, according to reports from US media.
Previously, Ukraine had received a mid-range version of the Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) from the US, but the decision to provide the long-range system, capable of firing missiles up to 300km (186 miles), was made by Mr. Biden in February.
State department spokesman Vedant Patel acknowledged the direct involvement of the US in supplying Ukraine with the long-range ATACMS, emphasizing the need for operational security by keeping the information confidential initially.
