Spotify Lossless Streaming: Is It Finally Arriving?

For over four years,anticipation has been building for lossless streaming on Spotify,and recent indications suggest its arrival might potentially be imminent.
According to the X account for Spicetify, a tool for customizing the Spotify client, the latest Spotify version contains hidden references to lossless audio. Screenshots shared by the account reveal “lossless” in the sidebar for device connection and as a streaming quality option within the app’s settings. Spicetify also reports discovering code suggesting lossless compatibility with Spotify Connect and the web player.
It’s important to note that lossless streaming is not yet available on Spotify. However, thes subtle mentions, coupled with recent reports, imply that the company might be preparing to introduce the feature soon.
Spotify’s Lossless Journey
Spotify initially unveiled a “Spotify HiFi” tier in 2021, with plans for a launch that same year, but those plans where ultimately delayed. In 2024, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek mentioned the company’s work on a “deluxe” Spotify version. Bloomberg reported in February that Spotify intends to launch a “Music Pro” tier, offering enhanced streaming quality, before the end of the year. Bloomberg suggests this tier could cost an additional $5.99 per month on top of existing subscription fees.
The tier could cost as much as $5.99 per month more than its current subscriptions,Bloomberg says.
