Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, said that his party had questioned the father of the student responsible for the explosion at SMAN 72 Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. The perpetrator’s mother is said to still be abroad.

“The father of ABH (child in conflict with the law) has been asked for information including several other witnesses,” said Budi at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Headquarters, Wednesday (12/11/2025).

Meanwhile, the police have not yet examined the biological mother of the perpetrator student. Budi said his mother was abroad at the moment.

“(Mother) is still abroad, working,” he explained.

Budi explained that the perpetrator only lived at home with his father. It is known that the perpetrator’s father and mother are divorced.

“When we talk about family, it’s already separated. Yes (divorce). This creates problems for the child. So actually there is a human side, there is an empathetic side that we must also maintain,” he said.

As is known, in a press conference held on Tuesday (11/11), the police said that ABH, the alleged perpetrator of the explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta, had no place to confide in. Police said this is suspected to have been the trigger for ABH to carry out the explosion.

“There is also something interesting in the investigation process that we obtained from extracting information and existing clues. That the child in question was in conflict with the law, there was encouragement to carry out this legal incident,” said Director of Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Iman Imanuddin in a press conference.

Iman explained that ABH felt alone and had no place to convey his complaints. The perpetrator felt this condition, both in the family and school environment.

“The encouragement is, where the person concerned feels alone and then feels that there is no one to convey their complaints to, whether in the family environment, then in their own environment or in the school environment,” he said.

For your information, the student who carried out the explosion has now been designated as ABH based on the police investigation process.

“From the preliminary fingerprint results, the children who were in conflict with the law or ABH who were involved in the explosion were active high school students acting independently, not related to any particular terror network,” said Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri in a press conference, Tuesday (11/11).

The explosion occurred on Friday (7/11) during the Friday prayer sermon. It is known that 96 people were victims of the explosion.
