The attack on Ranucci
The attack was carried out around 10pm in Campo Ascolano, a town between Rome and Pomezia, south of the capital. The explosion also damaged the other family car, regularly used by the daughter, who had parked it around 9.40pm. The journalist’s building also suffered damage in the external parts, while fortunately there were no victims or injuries. Frogs shortly after two in the morning he spoke on the phone to the Corriere: «My daughter passed in front of my car a few minutes earlier of the explosion, they could have killed her…”. According to the host, “it might not be a coincidence that a few days ago I announced the topics of the new Report investigations.”
The police and firefighters intervened on site to put out the flames that devoured the cars and to make the area safe, as well as the forensic police. Ranucci reported that «it was at least one kilo of explosives was used». The absence of cameras in the area makes investigations more complicated in an attempt to identify those responsible. The investigation was immediately opened by Rome’s anti-mafia prosecutors. At the moment the prosecutor of the DDA Carlo Villani – coordinated by the deputy Ilaria Calò – proceeds to damage with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method waiting to receive the first information from the police forces who intervened.

The explosion of the bomb, placed under the driver’s car, also caused damage to the house next door. Ranucci explained that his car had been parked in that place by his son yesterday at lunchtime. The host, who has been under guard since 2014 after the death threats from the mafia, he has long denounced “the climate of isolation and delegitimization towards me”, recalling that he has suffered various threats in recent times, starting from the discovery of two P38 bullets outside his home up to the tailing of individuals identified by his escort.

The location and manner of Thursday night’s explosion has some similarities to the two bullets from a P38 found in June 2024 by the escort men in a bush in front of the house.
