Salvador Illa Hospitalized: Leg Condition & Recovery Timeline

by Archynetys News Desk

The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, is admitted to the Surveillance Unit of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona after suffering from a condition of “motor deficit and pain” that mainly affected his legs. According to the medical team that treated him, Illa could go to the spinal cord injury ward in the next few days, but he will have to remain hospitalized for at least two weeks. At this moment he is “stable and lively,” although he suffers from a loss of strength in his legs that makes movement difficult.

Doctors have for now ruled out the most serious diseases and emerging pathologies, such as vascular and tumor pathologies, but they still cannot give a complete diagnosis, as they need to continue carrying out tests. “He has not suffered a stroke or a spinal cord injury,” said Dr. Patricia Pozo, head of Neurology. The planned treatment is for him to do occupational therapy and physical therapy.

As explained by the medical team, the president was admitted to the hospital on Saturday afternoon, in an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service. He arrived with severe pain and loss of strength and sensitivity in his lower extremities. Following the usual protocol, they performed a scan study to evaluate the entire vascular tree, which they repeated this Sunday. “The evolution remains stable and during the next few hours we have to see what its evolution is,” added Dr. Judith Sánchez-Raya, head of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service.

The president of the Generalitat went to the hospital on Saturday, after visiting the Tarragona town of Ascó and practicing sports in the morning. According to the first official information, Illa had felt unwell and went to the health center to “assess possible muscle damage.” As explained in the first hours, the doctors were doing tests to determine the origin of the pain he was suffering, but he was fine. On Saturday he spent the night in Vall d’Hebron.
