Russian Woman’s Plea: ‘We Just Exist’ – Life Under Putin

by Archynetys World Desk

Russia’s civilian population is increasingly showing fear, confusion and open frustration at the lack of progress in the waraccording to a newly released intercepted phone call released by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GRU).

In the intercepted conversation, a Russian woman described nightly explosions and a feeling of constant fear, saying that people no longer “live, they just exist.”

The conversation also underscored how deeply propaganda shapes public perceptions, with civilians repeating claims of “10,000 mercenaries” allegedly massing near the Ukrainian city of Vovchansk in eastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv region and questioning why Russian forces have failed to stop them, according to the GRU.

It was previously reported that Russian forces in the Kharkiv region were having difficulty coordinating their actions between their units, resulting in frequent “friendly fire” incidents and overall battlefield disarray.

At the same time, the record captures growing disillusionment with Russia’s military actions.

The woman notes that Russian troops have been fighting for Vovchansk since May 2024 with no tangible results, sarcastically referring to Russia’s touted “nanotechnology.”

According to HUR, such interceptions reflect growing disenchantment in Russia with the protracted war and the difference between official narratives and battlefield reality.

Russian infantry units deployed on the front line in Ukraine were previously reported to have resorted to opioid use to cope with the psychological stress of constant battlefield losses, failed attacks and high casualty rates.
