Qatar Diplomats Die in Egypt Crash Before Gaza Summit

The fatal accident occurred near the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, which was the location of a high-level conference (Summit) discussing peace in Gaza. Three Qatari diplomats were killed and two others injured in a car accident in Egypt.

Reported AFPSunday (12/10/2025), diplomats and official delegations have arrived in the Red Sea resort city in recent days to negotiate a Gaza ceasefire and a hostage release agreement.

Egyptian state media, Al-Qahera Newssaid five Qataris and an Egyptian driver were in the vehicle when the accident occurred. The incident is thought to have occurred due to loss of steering control.

The Qatari Embassy in Cairo expressed its ‘deep condolences and sorrow’ over the deaths of the three diplomats. Their bodies will be flown to Doha.

“The Qatari Embassy and the injured will be transferred to Doha by Qatari aircraft today. Both injured victims are currently receiving the necessary medical treatment at the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital,” said Qatar’s official statement.

Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, have been involved in months of negotiations that led to a Gaza ceasefire that Israel said took effect last Friday. Sharm el-Sheikh will also host a peace summit starting Monday (13/10).

The meeting is planned to be chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. This meeting is expected to involve participants from more than 20 countries with the aim of ending the war in the Gaza Strip.
