Kuwaiti media Al-Jarida, citing a high-ranking Iranian official source on Sunday (15/3), reported that Mojtaba was secretly taken to Moscow and underwent successful surgery.

“Mojtaba was secretly transferred to Moscow to undergo surgery for health and safety reasons,” the statement said The Chosun.

“He has successfully completed the operation and is currently recovering at the hospital located in the Russian presidential complex,” the statement continued.

The report said Russian President Vladimir Putin previously called Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday (12/3) to offer treatment directly.

In the evening, Mojtaba was flown out using a Russian military aircraft accompanied by a medical team.

Iranian intelligence authorities are said to have chosen Russia because they were concerned that domestic medical facilities would be the target of Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s supreme leader.

However, the Iranian government insists there are no serious problems regarding Mojtaba’s safety.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied the injury claims in a media interview a day earlier.

“There is no problem with the new supreme leader. He issued a statement yesterday and is carrying out his duties in accordance with the constitution,” Araghchi said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military assesses that Mojtaba suffered a leg injury from the first day of the war, and US officials also said it was possible he was injured.

“There is a possibility that the so-called new supreme leader has been injured,” said US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, at a recent press conference.

The GuardianBritish media reported that Mojtaba was in a coma and being treated secretly in hospital.

Mojtaba was appointed Supreme Leader of Iran on Sunday (8/3) replacing his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on February 28.

However, because he has never appeared in public, speculation about his health condition continues to emerge.

On Thursday (12/3), Mojtaba made his first statement via state television, but it was read by a presenter.
