Russian President Vladimir Putin has characterized his recent summit talks with US President Donald Trump as “very useful.” The discussions, held after escalating tensions in Ukraine, centered on potential resolutions to the ongoing conflict.

Following the meeting with Trump,Putin convened a government executive meeting in Moscow on Saturday.The talks between Putin and Trump marked their first face-to-face engagement as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Though, concrete details regarding a ceasefire were not disclosed.

Putin described the summit as “timely and very useful,” emphasizing that he and Trump discussed a resolution of the Ukraine crisis “on a fair basis as well as its origins and causes.”

According to Putin, the summit provided an chance to “explain their positions calmly and in detail.”

He also stated that “Moscow respects Washington’s position on seeking an immediate halt to the fighting and Russia is also seeking an end.”

Putin further commented that the summit “brought Russia closer to the necessary solution in line with its position.”

Looking ahead, President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are scheduled to meet on Monday.
