The authors of the public petition declare themselves “united beyond professional or ideological boundaries” and created it to “repudiate” the recent decision of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro (one of the first of the new executive and which has already generated profound discussion) to reverse what they considered to be “the innovative visual identity of the Government of Portugal”. The government revealed in this way, they consider, “an alarmingly retrograde perspective”.

“This action not only disregards the vitality and relevance of the artistic, creative and design community, but also underestimates the intellectual and critical capacity of the entire Portuguese population”, justify the authors of this petition.

Considered “a work of world renown”, the petition considers that the government’s previous visual identity, which has since been revoked, was completely “ignored” and that it “regressed to obsolete practices”. “Such a measure reflects a profound disconnection with contemporary values essential for the evolution of Portuguese society on the global stage”, it is accused.

Still according to this public petition, which already has a few hundred signatures, the previous visual identity [de 2011]but which is now in force again, is “technically inadequate and visually obsolete”, contradicting the “basic principles of effective design” and placing Portugal “in a disadvantageous position in international dialogue and in the economy
