PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri was absent to attend the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Even so, PDIP ensured Megawati’s relationship with President Prabowo Subianto was fine.
“Ms. Megawati’s relationship with President Prabowo is very good, like younger siblings, PDI-P PDI-Struggle relations with the government are also good,” PDIP politician Guntur Romli told reporters on Monday (8/18/2025).
Guntur said that on August 16, 2025, Megawati was present at the inauguration of Paskibraka at the Palace. Whereas on August 17, Megawati was scheduled to be the 80th Anniversary Inspector of the Republic of Indonesia at the PDIP DPP Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta.

“He commemorates the Independence Day with the management, cadres, sympathizers and the community, because after the ceremony there is a people’s competition,” he said.
“So Mrs. Megawati was not present at the palace not because there was a problem with President Prabowo, but because she became the ceremony inspector,” he added.
It is known, the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the Republic of Indonesia Anniversary Ceremony Prabowo Subianto.
State Minister Prasetyo Hadi previously said Megawati Soekarnoputri was not present at the commemoration ceremony of the proclamation seconds at the Palace. He said Megawati led the ceremony with PDIP cadres.
“The 5th president of the last confirmation was unable to attend to attend the Proclamation Seconds Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace because he did have a routine agenda on August 17 to lead a special ceremony at the PDIP DPP,” Prasetyo said before the Republic of Indonesia Anniversary ceremony.
Meanwhile, PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri appeared to lead the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the PDIP Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. PDIP said the ceremony at the party school had become a tradition so that Megawati did not attend the Republic of Indonesia Anniversary ceremony at the Palace today.
“Yes, since last year, Mega’s mother has celebrated in this party school. Previously, the party always celebrated in this party school, so this was a tradition that had been built since PDI Perjuangan,” said PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto at Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Sunday (17/8).
