Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon criticized the Lee Jae-myung administration‘s consumption coupons for people’s livelihood recovery as a ‘one-time cash distribution.’
Mayor Oh posted this on his Facebook page and said, ‘What should be placed on the shoulders of young people should be competitiveness, not coupons.’
Regarding the consumption coupon policy, he pointed out, “The government and the ruling party, whether aware of the desperate anxiety of young people or not, poured 13 trillion won of finances into the one-time cash distribution, packaging it as a ‘consumption coupon to restore people’s livelihood.’”
“The skyrocketing debt falls entirely on the shoulders of young people,” he said. “Young people say, ‘The coupon-driven economy is more fearful than the income-driven growth.’ This means that it is a variant of the small-pollinated malignancy.”
He added, “As a politician and an administrator, I cannot ignore the fear that young people feel.”
Mayor Oh also said that the consumption coupon policy is the epitome of ‘activist politics.’
Mayor Oh mentioned the cultural economy and urban economy industries that have grown since his inauguration as mayor of Seoul, and pointed out, “However, the activist camp, which has never produced any brand, always had the same attitude at every moment of change.”
He said, “I just unconditionally opposed the restoration of the Cheonggyecheon Stream and the Han River Renaissance. If we had followed their logic, today’s Seoul would have become a ‘city at a standstill’ rather than a ‘city of K-pop demon hunters.’”
In addition, he emphasized, “If the entire country is repeatedly governed by borrowing money and distributing cash, future generations will not be able to enjoy the prosperity of previous generations. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is shameless and plundering future generations.”
