A construction project will begin later this month that will revamp the I-95/896 interchange. 5/2/23

- Ramp closures and lane closures are planned Sept. 15-18 as road work continues on Route 896, Route 72 and Interstate 95 in Newark.
- Most of the work is set for overnight hours, ending between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.
- The work is part of the new ramps planned at the Route 896 and I-95 interchange in Newark.
Overnight ramp closures and lane closures are planned Sept. 15-18 as work continues on the Route 896 interchange with I-95 near Newark and also nearby on Route 72.
“Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly when traveling through these areas during overnight hours.”
The Delaware Department of Transportation announced on Sept. 12 the plans for five projects:
- Sept. 15, overnight ramp closure from Route 896 north to I-95 north from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Sept. 15,overnight road closure on Route 896 north for ramp work between Old Baltimore Pike and the I-95 interchange from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Sept. 15-16, overnight lane closures on Route 896 south for paving from Welsh Tract Road to the I-95 interchange from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Sept. 16-18, overnight lane closures on I-95 south for barrier painting from the Welcome Center to the toll plaza from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- sept. 16-18, overnight lane closures on Route 72 north and south for bridge work between Royal Farms and Bellevue Road from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
