Elon Musk Intensifies Focus on Companies Following X Outage

After several months dedicated to government initiatives, Elon Musk has announced he is now “super focused” on his various companies.

The billionaire made the statement Saturday (May 24) on X, his social media platform, shortly after an outage affected tens of thousands of users.

“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms. I must be super focused on X/Xai and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out,” Musk stated.

The outage lasted just over three hours, with over 25,800 reports of issues from users in the United states, according to Reuters, citing data from Downdetector. Thousands of X users in countries including the U.K., Canada, Australia, India, France, Germany, and Spain also reported problems.

“As evidenced by the X uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” Musk added. “The failover redundancy should have worked, but did not.”

Musk’s reference to “X/xAI” highlights the recent integration of the social platform with his artificial intelligence (AI) venture.

xAI acquired X in March, in a deal valuing the former at $80 billion and X, previously known as Twitter, at $33 billion (calculated as $45 billion minus $12 billion in debt).

“xAI and X’s futures are intertwined,” musk said at the time.

“Today, we officially take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution and talent. This combination will unlock immense potential by blending xAI’s advanced AI capability and expertise with X’s massive reach.”

Musk Shifts Focus Back to Business Ventures

The announcement signals a shift from Musk’s recent political activities. He had previously spent important time campaigning for president Donald Trump, including considerable financial contributions to Trump and other Republican candidates.

Following Trump’s election, Musk briefly led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative aimed at reducing the size of government. However, this involvement, along with Musk’s political views, led to protests against Tesla and impacted sales.

In April,Musk indicated he would reduce his involvement with DOGE to one or two days per week starting in May,seemingly to reassure investors.

“As evidenced by the X uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” Musk added.
