Monroe Swimming & Whiteford Football: Latest Results

DUNDEE – Monroe rolled up 372 points to easily outdistance the field in the Southeastern Michigan Independent Swimming League Relays on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Monroe won the 200 medley, 200, 600, 700 freestyle and breaststroke relays.

Nicole Ryske was on three of those relays while Madison Mahoney, Sophia Smith, Abigail Dieckmann, Morgan Kleinow, Blayne Lynch, June Brooks and Emerson Gruber were on two each.

Delani Willey and Alexandra Eby also were on a winning relay.

“Every girl on the team outperformed my expectations,” said Monroe coach Erin Dowen. “We’ve been focused on a repeat win since last season’s championship, and I’m so proud they achieved it.”

Down gave credit to Jozi Willey, Paige Frank and Caitlyn Nicholas for picking up points in B relays.

“The newer swimmers really have to push themselves to learn a lot, quickly,” she said. “We are so proud of how they all raced to the wall with their hearts. We fought and kept fighting.”

Dundee was second with 294, Erie Mason-Ida sixth with 184, New Boston Huron seventh with 164 and St. Mary Catholic Central eighth with 116.

Dundee’s Audrey Przybylski was the diving champ and swam with Allie Federer, Lillian Ratliff and Kiimberly Coon on the winning 500 relay.

The Vikings also took the backstroke relay with Federer, Sloan Branum, Quinn Branum and Rafliff and the over-under relay with Alexis Colby, Allory Bennett, Lily Homrich and Ratliff.

SATURDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

FOOTBALL

Drew Ruddy, Whiteford: Ran for 60 yards and gained 27 yards on a reception during a 43-14 loss to Harbor Beach. The Bobcats scores first on a 2-yard run by Andrews Trejo followed by a 2-point conversion pass from Tre Eitniear to Caden. Brek Ruddy also scored a touchdown, but the Bobcats dipped to 1-1.

VOLLEYBALL

Zoie Stubleski, Erie Mason: Piled up 50 kills as the Eagles went 6-0 in the Melvindale Invitational. Paige Konrad 13 chalked up 13 blocks and Jayanna Willets notched 45 digs. “Today was a great tournament,” Mason coach Kayle Scott said. “Our defense and offense worked together and had great success.”

CROSS COUNTRY

Braelynn Chiotti, Whiteford: Took the girls championship at the Sand Creek with a time of 21:34.29, just ahead of the Summerfield duo of Allison Ost and Makenzie Wolfe. “Braelynn Chiotti has been running for me since sixth grade and today she finished first in her first cross country win,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “She ran a well-executed race and finished strong.” Whiteford freshman Grant Rasor was fifth in the boys race.

FRIDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

CROSS COUNTRY

Jake Stanislaski, Flat Rock: Was the boys overall winner in the Woodhaven Warrior Classic at Lake Erie Metro Park with a time of 16:31. Calvin Haydamacker (18:29), Graham Tanner (20:19) and Dario Barella (20:39) all ran personal-best times. Joseph Colaluca (18), Tanylei Neff (24) and David Mills (25) were the top finishers for Erie Mason. Livia Boucher, Giada Fioritto, Madison Slade, Ada Cain and Haper Jackson ran 10-11-13-14-23 as Gibraltar Carlson’s girls took second place. Wyatt DelValle was 16th for the Carlson boys.

BOYS SOCCER

Brandt Dyer, State Line Christian: Made many key saves in scoreless tie against Clinton Township Faith. The Patriots are 2-3-1.

Keegan Bates, Milan: Logged a goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie with Allen Park. Fred Brown scored the other goal.

THURSDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

BOYS SOCCER

Dane Holycross, Ida: Netted two goals and assisted on the other as the Blue Streaks charged back from a 3-0 deficit despite being down a player because of a red card in the second half to tie Trenton 3-3. Brenner Nelson also scored a goal and Jaxon Bolster had an assist.
