A 13-year-old girl reported missing from Rochester earlier this month has been found near Chicago with two men who are in the country illegally, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The girl was reported missing on Sept. 11 after leaving her family’s home. Security footage showed her meeting with three individuals near her residence before leaving in a light-colored SUV.

U.S. Marshals in Rochester, working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, traced the girl’s movements to the Chicago area and notified marshals in the Northern District of Illinois.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, marshals located the girl at an apartment complex in Blue Island, Illinois, a suburb just south of Chicago. She was found with an 18-year-old man and his father. Both men were later determined by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be in the country illegally.

Federal authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public. An investigation is underway to determine how the girl went missing and what occurred during the time she was gone.

“The United States Marshals Service worked tirelessly to recover this endangered child from the predators who should have never been in this country to take her from the safety of her family and home,” said U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces S. Serralta. “Our children deserve safe cities.”
