With the aim of providing health information and information of interest for responsible ownership of horses, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) trained producers, rural associations and tertiary level students in the department of Las Heras, Mendoza.
The day took place at the facilities of the Los Pimientos cabin, where agents of the Cuyo Regional Center of SENASA they toasted technical advice for those who have equinesin order to strengthen the compliance with vaccination, requirements to participate in equestrian events, movements and animal welfare conditions.
In the first instance, the staff of the health organization pointed out in the mandatory vaccination of animals, both against influenza and equine encephalomyelitis (EE). Particularly in the EE, it was recalled that compliance with the vaccination schedule is the main tool to prevent the disease, considering its prevalence during the summer season due to the increase in the mosquito population, vector of the virus.
In addition, the characteristics of EE and how it can affect the central nervous system of horses were reinforced, so that the producers and participants of the day could identify the main clinical signs and notify the health organization if there is any suspicion of the disease.
On the other hand, the Service’s veterinarians addressed the documentary and health requirements that must be met by holders of these species who want to attend equine gatheringswhere it was explained that each animal must enter accompanied by its Equine Health Book (LSE) or equine passport, necessary to prove its identity and health.
Regarding these documents, it was indicated that they must always be authorized by SENASA, with a record of the date and office where the book/passport was registered; have a diagnostic test for equine infectious anemia (EIA), less than 60 days old and signed by the veterinarian responsible for extracting the sample; have a negative AIE result, with the signature and stamp of the laboratory professional who performed the analysis; and keep mandatory vaccinations current.
Also, he spoke with gaucho groups on the conditions for holding equestrian events. In this aspect, it was mentioned that to organize these activities The Commitment Act must be presented to the Service office of your jurisdiction.a document that notifies the date of the event and the characteristics of the event, as well as who will be the accredited veterinarian in Equine Health and Welfare, responsible for the health and documentary control of the animals at the event.
Finally, the professionals of the national organization recalled the requirements that must be met by those who transport equines, where it was mentioned that all movements must be covered by the LSE or equine passport and the Certificate of Equine Infectious Anemia (CAIE) of each individual, in authorized transport that meets the structural and animal welfare conditions necessary for these species, according to the SENASA Resolution No. 723/2025.
New requirements for washing beaches were reinforced
The day also included a talk on the regulatory update of the washing facilities and/or beaches, which through the SENASA Resolution No. 806/2025 seeks to optimize the registration of establishments that provide hygiene and disinfection services for land vehicles.
In this sense, the importance of expanding the network of laundromats available nationwide was highlighted, remembering that, with the new measure, these establishments will only have to complete, sign and present a specific sworn declaration to the nearest office of the organization. With this document, users will be included in the registry and will not have to comply with other documentary and infrastructure requirements that overlap with municipal and provincial regulations.
In addition, the agents of the Cuyo Regional Center reported on the digital model of the Single Certificate of Washing and Disinfection (CULyD) for vehicles for the land transport of live animals, which will come into effect from February 2026. From this date until April 1 of next year, the new CULyD may be issued in a pre-printed form, allowing transport data to be recorded in handwritten form.
However, they were reminded that after this period, only the CULyD issued by SENASA’s SIGLAVA system will be valid, with all the vehicle information issued digitally and with a unique coding, which will guarantee the authenticity and validity of the document.
