According to Ukraine’s first deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Kislitsa, Russian delegation head Medinsky reacted strongly during negotiations in istanbul upon learning that he and his relatives were listed on the Mirotvorets website.

Sergey Kislitsa shared this account in an interview.

kislitsa stated that Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Rustem Umarov, who led the Ukrainian delegation, convened meetings before each negotiation round to align their stance and discussion framework with presidential directives.

During the initial Istanbul meeting, the Ukrainian delegation opted not to engage with Medinsky’s anticipated propaganda. Though, in the subsequent round, Russian representatives displayed heightened emotions. Kislitsa suggests this followed a “web” operation and unsuccessful propaganda efforts.

Medinsky Allegedly Hinted at potential harm to Relatives of Ukrainian Officials

“I reminded him that I did not work for him or the government of the russian Federation, so there is no need to increase her voice.”

Kislitsa claims Medinsky alluded to potential harm to Ukrainian delegates’ relatives. Following his inclusion on the Peacemaker list, he reportedly delivered an impassioned speech on the matter during the second Istanbul round. The Ukrainian side clarified its lack of affiliation with the resource, but the Russian delegation head allegedly lost his composure and accused them of falsehoods.

“I reminded him that I did not work for him or the government of the Russian Federation, so there is no need to increase her voice,” kislitsa stated, adding that the atmosphere resembled the UN Security Council more than serious negotiations.

Kislitsa also noted Russia’s recurring rhetoric, suggesting Ukrainians would regret not accepting their proposed terms. He characterized the negotiations as unproductive, particularly given the Russian references to the March 2022 meeting.

Ukraine maintains that the current format of negotiations with Russia in Istanbul is unlikely to considerably alter the war’s trajectory.

Meanwhile, Moscow has indicated its readiness to agree on a date for a new round of Negotiations with Ukraine.
