Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sissi has voiced Egypt’s “total rejection” of the recent Israeli military actions against Iran during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Massoud Pezeshkian.
The Egyptian presidency stated that the call, which took place on Saturday, saw President Al-Sissi express concerns that the ongoing escalation “represents a threat to the security and stability of the Middle East at a critical time” when the region is already facing multiple crises.
President Al-Sissi urged for an immediate cease-fire to pave the way for renewed negotiations aimed at achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict.
Call for De-escalation and Peaceful Resolution
The Egyptian leader emphasized that “There is no military solution to this crisis,” and stressed the critical need to work towards de-escalation to prevent the further expansion of the “cycle of violence.”
“There is no military solution to this crisis,”
He reiterated Egypt’s firm stance that regional stability can only be achieved through “the implementation of the two -state solution and the creation of an autonomous Palestinian State, in accordance with international legitimacy.”
Mr. Pezeshkian reportedly praised Egypt’s “wise positions” and Cairo’s ongoing efforts to restore stability to the region, affirming Iran’s alignment with Egypt’s position on finding “a just, global and definitive solution to the Palestinian question.”
Diplomatic Efforts to Ease Tensions
This phone call is the latest in a series of Egyptian diplomatic initiatives aimed at containing the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and preventing further escalation in the region.
The recent Israeli-Iranian military escalation began on June 13, with Israel launching air strikes and drone attacks targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, resulting in casualties among high-ranking commanders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli territory.
