ByteDance Stands Firm: No Plans To Sell TikTok…

I can’t give up on the video recommendation algorithm.
“There are no plans to sell the US business rights.”

It has been reported that ByteDance is in a position to stop services in the US rather than sell its TikTok subsidiary.

On the 26th (local time), Reuters reported, citing multiple officials, that ByteDance plans to terminate TikTok’s services in the United States if its lawsuit against the recently passed ‘TikTok Forced Sales Act’ does not work.

The biggest reason ByteDance isn’t considering selling TikTok is because of its own algorithm-related patents. ByteDance holds patents related to TikTok’s video recommendation algorithm.

A ByteDance official said, “The algorithm used to operate TikTok plays a key role in the overall operation of ByteDance,” and added, “We believe that there is little possibility of selling the TikTok app with such an algorithm built into it .”

On the 24th, US President Joe Biden signed a bill banning the video sharing platform TikTok from serving in the US if it is not separated from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, within 270 days (the president can extend 90 days).

La Jornada Now Roberto Canseco Is Accused Of…

Former Mexican diplomat accused of obstruction of justice in Ecuador

The former head of the Foreign Ministry and Political Affairs at the Mexican embassy in Quito, Roberto Canseco, is now facing a lawsuit for obstruction of justice. The lawsuit was filed on April 16 and was only made public yesterday.

The attorney general’s office specified in a message posted on the social network United Mexican States that the complainant is Galo Monteverde and Milton Castillo appears as the complaining victim. Both Monteverde and Castillo are political activists of the Ecuadorian right, known for their involvement during the government of Rafael Correa. Monteverde is currently under investigation for the assault on the public channel EcuadorTV in 2010, while Castillo is facing criminal investigations for influence peddling.

In a statement, the prosecutor’s office indicated that Canseco, as a former diplomat, enjoys diplomatic immunity as dictated by international law. Therefore, the prosecutor’s office refrained from continuing with the procedure and ordered the Directorate of International Affairs to inform the Government of Mexico of the crime.

Canseco’s defense stated that the accusations do not correspond to his actions as he was only defending the embassy facilities.

The Version That Changes Everything

Piero Fassino, deputy of the Democratic Party and former Minister of Justice, was reported for the attempted theft of a 100 euro perfume in a duty free shop at Fiumicino airport. The news was reconstructed by Il Fatto Quotidiano and the episode occurred on 15 April. Fassino, the newspaper writes, was waiting for a plane to Strasbourg where he was to participate in the work of the Italian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. After passing the checks, he stopped at the duty free, where he bought a women’s perfume worth over 100 euros: “I wanted to buy it for my wife”, he specified. At that moment, according to the reconstruction provided by the same dem parliamentarian, the cell phone rang: “Having the trolley in one hand and the cell phone in the other, not having three hands yet, I simply placed the perfume package in the pocket of the jacket, in waiting to go to the checkout”.

Here, however, writes il Fatto, a discrepancy between the versions emerges: the newspaper understands that at that point Fassino would have moved away beyond the tills, which triggered the anti-shoplifting alarm. According to what the former minister reported,

Does Climate News Make Us Despondent Or Motivate…

Today, five Belgian universities are starting with the climate barometer. With this questionnaire that anyone can complete, the researchers want to find out what effects climate news has on us. Do the messages make you scared and despondent? Or are they motivating?

Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 6:36 AM

No one is happy with the latest report from the European climate agency Copernicus and the UN weather organization WMO. Last year, quite a few records were broken: the number of days with ‘extreme heat stress’ was unprecedented, the month of September was the warmest ever, the glacier ice in the Alps in particular melted ‘exceptionally’ fast, and the sea water temperature off the coast was never so high. .

The organizations warn that Europe is not exempt from the consequences of global warming. Even more: it is the fastest warming inhabited continent. “The cost of climate action may seem high, but the cost of inaction is much higher,” it said in a statement.

So many alarm bells, but do those messages also motivate us to change our behavior? Researchers from five Belgian universities want to find out. That’s why they’re starting the climate barometer today.

From Dead Chickens To Diapers And Wood Waste…

People have already put vacuum cleaner bags, plastic bags and even a dead chicken in the organic waste containers. That doesn’t belong there. — © if

Sint-Niklaas/Temse/Waasmunster/Sint-Gillis-Waas/Stekene –

Waste intermunicipal company MIWA, responsible for waste collection and the recycling parks in Sint-Gillis-Waas, Sint-Niklaas, Stekene, Temse and Waasmunster, will closely monitor the contents of the green organic waste containers in the coming weeks. Too often waste that doesn’t belong there ends up there, even dead chickens and used diapers.

Thursday April 4, 2024 at 12:39

“Gft stands for vegetable, fruit and garden waste. But we note that the containers are used by many people to dump waste that does not belong there,” says Maxime Vanderhaeghen, spokesperson for MIWA. (Read more below the photo)

For example, the garbage collectors found used diapers, compostable bags, bread bags, plastic bags, wood blocks, vacuum cleaner bags and even dead chickens in the green containers. “And that is not the intention,” says Vanderhaeghen. “Mistakes happen out of ignorance or inattention. But unfortunately the collection team also has to deal with residual waste that is hidden under a layer of organic waste.

Venices Historic Move: Implementing A Tourist Fee For…

Venice’s Innovative Approach to Tourism Management

Recently, Venice, Italy made history by introducing‌ a groundbreaking initiative to‍ address the challenges of over-tourism. ⁣The city has become the pioneer in implementing a mandatory fee for ⁤day‍ tourists who wish to explore its iconic canals and attractions during peak⁤ periods.

Preserving Fragile Sites and Balancing Tourism

The primary objective behind this measure is to protect the delicate heritage sites of Venice from the adverse effects of large crowds. By discouraging excessive footfall on‌ certain days, ⁣the city aims to maintain the integrity and sustainability ⁣of its historic landmarks. Additionally, the initiative encourages tourists to consider visiting during off-peak seasons, spreading the economic benefits more evenly throughout the year.

Fee Structure and ⁤Exemptions

Under the new system, visitors are required to pay a nominal fee of approximately $5.37 on 29 designated high-traffic days between April 25 and July 14. However, certain categories⁣ of tourists are exempt from this charge. Individuals staying overnight in local⁤ accommodations, including hotels and Airbnb rentals, are not subject to the tourist fee. Similarly, residents, native Venetians, individuals visiting family members residing ‌in the city, employees, students, and children under 14 are also exempt from the payment.
