As part of his visit to the Bío Bío region, the national prosecutor Ángel Valencia referred to the investigation by the crime of Venezuelan Ronald Ojeda and the possibility that this case could advance after the arrest of Nicolas Maduro in the United States.

In this regard, the head of the Public Ministry confirmed that the Prosecutor’s Office is considering requesting collaboration from the US Department of Justice to interrogate the leader of the Venezuelan regime, currently detained in that country, in the context of the investigation led by the Metropolitan South regional prosecutor, Héctor Barros.

As he explained, this diligence was raised as a relevant possibility during an analysis meeting held at the National Prosecutor’s Office.

“As prosecutor Barros has stated, he told us that among the procedures he considered necessary was to consider the current situation of Nicolás Maduro‘s detention in the United States, in order to require cooperation from the Department of Justice so that a statement could be taken from this person,” said prosecutor Valencia.

What corresponds now is to obtain the collaboration of Washington, so that it allows the Chilean Prosecutor’s Office to question Maduro about the political motive that, according to the investigation, was behind Ojeda’s crime, which would also have been executed by agents of the Venezuelan State.

Let us remember that the coordinating prosecutor of the Team Against Organized Crime and Homicide (ECOH) of the Prosecutor’s Office, Héctor Barros, has disclosed several times that The main investigative hypothesis of the case is that Ronald Ojeda was murdered at the request of the Venezuelan government.

Without going any further, he did not rule out requesting the extradition of Diosdado Hair, number two of the regime, who would have contacted members of the Tren de Aragua to kidnap and murder Ojeda, all this because of his opposition role.

“Diosdado Cabello would have been the one who commissioned or who negotiated, basically, with the top leadership of the Aragua Train – which was Niño Guerrero at that time – and he would also have been the one who agreed and made the payment for this order,” said Barros in conversation with Radio Pauta.

This crime occurred in February 2024 in the Metropolitan region and there are currently more than 10 detainees. Among them is Alfredo José Henríquez Pineda, alias “Gordo Alex”, who led the “Los Piratas” faction of the Tren de Aragua in Chile.

The possibility of taking a statement from Nicolás Maduro has been evaluated by the lawyer Juan Carlos Manríquez, representative of the family of Ronald Ojeda, who maintained that this diligence is consistent with the judicial actions brought both in Chile and before the International Criminal Court.

In his opinion, the new antecedents reinforce the thesis of a commissioned crime with political motivations and the need to insist on arrest warrants against those responsible who have not yet been prosecuted.
