“It was important to us to go there to help.” Reyhane Ounali, Mohamed Karim Al Khabib and Khadim Rassoul Diouf are three medical students at the Faculty of Lyon Sud.

At the start of their second year, the 3 friends want to launch a project to help in a disadvantaged territory. Supported by the Acts University Association (Association for Cooperation between the World Territories for Education and Health), they decide to go to Senegal, more particularly in the city of Kédougou on the Malian border. There are a hospital and an orphanage, the Pouponnière Gallé Bobo, in a more than precarious situation.

But before leaving, they must raise funds. The three students organize collections, hold refreshments with university events, sell brioches … Finally, between harvested money and donations, they manage to bring together 5,200 euros.

A meticulous organization on site

The three friends arrived in Senegal at the beginning of July. 3,600 euros are allocated to the Gallé Bobo orphanage. In addition, clothes, milk bricks, baby diapers, rice and sugar, the bottoms are also used to build a chicken coop.

The rest of the sum is paid to the city hospital. “Our comrade (Khadim Rassoul Diouf) is Senegalese, which allowed us to get involved more easily,” explains Reyhane Ounali. Today, the three friends hope to pass the torch of this cooperation.
