Košice. Golden weekend. This is how the Košice people tend to call Marathon Saturday and Sunday. The International Peace Marathon in Košice, as is customary, took place on the first Sunday of October.
The big cross -country event was preceded on Saturday by a minimarathon, on which more than 4,200 small and large runners were built.
On Sunday, the first at nine in the morning was the royal cross -country discipline, which almost 3,000 runners entered this year. Along with them, the first part of the relay ran.
The strongest cross -country group – half marathon – started at half past eleven. The half marathon track decided to test about 8,800 runners this year.

As in other years, the track was lined by viewers. In Košice, the support of the marathon has a great tradition, encouragers can basically be seen on any section, even outside those exposed in the center and its surroundings.

“I do not remember such conditions a few years ago. Perhaps only in 2020, when the marathon was running in other conditions because of Covid. If I remember well, there was another track and runners were around a thousand due to anti -panel measures. He will not miss about two decades.

The day before, they were with their parents to run a minimarathon. As they said, they are already looking forward to having enough years to participate at least the relay run.

The audience was also attracted by the Olympic relay called V4 Olympians. For her, the Olympic champion from Rio Matej Tóth and the bronze medalist from Vancouver and Sochi, the Polish speed skater Katarzyna Bachled-Curus, arrived in Košice.

The fire relay message is started together from the Košice International Peace Marathon and set out on a journey across Slovakia. “For the first time I ran in a mass run with 4,000 participants. I was excited about it. I got the privilege that I could go out of the first row after sending the fire. When I saw the crowd of runners, it was incredible. It is indescribable, it is an exceptional event, ”said Marcela Pavkovčeková, silver medalist from the 1997 Junior World Cup in 1997, a member of the relay, who finished fifth at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, and a biathlete who was one fourth.
“I like to go to the Košice marathon very much. When I got the offer to participate in the relay from the Spiš Olympic Club and run a mini -marathon, I did not hesitate at all. It was an honor for me that I was part of the start of the relay message.

The runners’ interest is still high
The past two years of the Košice marathon was marked by the celebrations of the centenary of a major international cross -country event. They both lured cross -country enthusiasts who started here in record numbers.
