The Italian U21 team’s quest for European glory came to a heartbreaking end against Germany in the quarterfinals of the European Championship in Slovakia.Despite a spirited performance and a late equalizer, the Azzurri fell 3-2 in extra time.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Italy showing resilience after going down to nine men following the expulsions of Gnunto and Zanotti. Ambrosino’s late goal sent the game into extra time, but Rohl’s strike proved to be the decisive blow. This loss extends Italy’s semifinal drought since 2017, with further disappointments in 2019, 2021, and 2023.
