TEHRAN – Iranian President Pezeshkian has officially enacted a law to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to state media reports on July 2nd.

Prior to this decision, Iran had cautioned against such a move, asserting that the IAEA was aligned with Western interests and used to justify Israeli air strikes.

The law, which was approved by parliament last month, now mandates that Iran’s Supreme National Security Council must grant approval for any future IAEA inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities.

In response, the IAEA released a statement acknowledging the reports and stating, “We have a grasp of the reports and are waiting for more official data from Iran.”

Implications of the Suspension

The suspension of cooperation raises concerns about clarity and monitoring of Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA’s role is to verify that nuclear material remains in peaceful use. Reduced cooperation could hinder thes efforts and increase international tensions.

“We have a grasp of the reports and are waiting for more official information from Iran.”
