China Reaffirms Commitment to Stability in the South China Sea
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Wednesday highlighted China’s readiness to collaborate with ASEAN countries in implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and advancing consultations for a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC). The spokesperson stressed China’s determination to conclude the COC swiftly and maintain the South China Sea’s peace and stability.
Malaysian Prime Minister’s Plea for Code of Conduct
Responding to media inquiries regarding China-ASEAN relations and South China Sea disputes, spokesperson Guo Jiakun echoed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call for an expedient conclusion of the COC. Anwar emphasized the need to address and resolve the region’s maritime disputes through diplomatic means.
China’s Commitment to Friendly Consultation
China values the Asian Way of friendly consultation as a model for managing and resolving differences in its developing relationship with ASEAN. The Chinese spokesperson endorsed Malaysia’s leadership of ASEAN. China is prepared to work with Malaysia to advance China-ASEAN cooperation across various sectors, including the economy, trade, digital transformation, industry and supply chains, green development, and cultural exchanges.
