The Milleproroghe decree launched last Thursday by the government has in fact blocked the updating of the amounts for road fines, leaving the value of the fines unchanged which, in the absence of intervention, would have increased by around 2% starting next January.
The stop to the increase in fines
Without this stop the fine for the Do not stop would have gone from 42 to 43 euros, the one for theaccess to restricted traffic zones from 87 to 89 euros, the exceeding speed limits over 60 km/h from 845 to 862 euros, the passage with red light from 167 to 170 euros, the failure to use seat belts from 83 to 85 euros, that for theuse of cell phone while driving from 250 to 255 euros, just to give a few examples. This is, explains Codacons, the third consecutive block in the updating of the amounts of road fines: the
for the first time with the budget law for 2023 the government, by virtue of the particular economic situation of the country, averted a 15.6% increase in fines, an intervention which was then also extended for 2025. The last increase in fines dates back to 2019, when the amounts rose by 2.2%, and then fell by 0.2% in 2021.
The increase in diesel due to excise duties
With the realignment of excise duties, however, there will be an increase in taxation on diesel equal to 4.05 euro cents per liter for diesel which will bring an increase in revenue of 552 million euros to the state coffers in 2026. According to the calculations of the consumer association, also considering the 22% VAT, a 50 liter tank of diesel will therefore cost 2.47 euros more from next January than today, with a higher outlay on an annual basis, assuming two full tanks per month, from +59.3 euros per car. At the same time, the association recalls, there will be a reduction in the excise duty on petrol but for example in May, when the excise duty increased by 1.5 euro cents, the price of diesel at the pump immediately increased, while for green fuel, despite the presence of
a reduction in excise duty by 1.5 cents, the reductions were minimal.
The increases in car insurance
Codacons also reports possible increases, further increases for theRc car. One of the measures contained in the omnibus amendment to the budget bill, in fact, increases the rate for motor liability insurance relating to the risks of insurance from 2.5% to 12.5%.
injury to the driver and risk of roadside assistance for contracts stipulated or renewed starting from 1 January 2026. A measure that should bring 115 million euros into state coffers next year. overall by 17.5%, going from an average of 353 euros
