The management of FC Barcelona continues with the expansion works at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium intensively and without interruptions, even during the festive period, in an effort to increase the capacity of the stadium as soon as possible.
The Spanish newspaper “Sport” revealed that Barcelona could increase the capacity of its stadium by 17,000 spectators before the next match against Oviedo, taking advantage of the fact that the team will play several matches away from home, which facilitates the continuation of the works, in addition to the possibility of the club obtaining the necessary permits from the city council to open the north side of the stadium.
The Catalan team will return to La Liga competitions on January 3 at the Cornellá stadium to face Espanyol, before heading to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Super Cup, where they will face Athletic Bilbao on January 7 in the semifinals, while their rival will be known in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey.
League competitions are scheduled to resume on January 18 with a match at the Reale Arena, before facing Slavia Prague on January 21, and then hosting Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou on January 25, a match that could see around 62,000 spectators in attendance, preparing for the Champions League decider on January 28 against Copenhagen.
Barcelona management hopes to complete the first and second phases of the expansion, while the third phase will be added next season, reaching a total stadium capacity of 105,000 spectators, which will make the Spotify Camp Nou the largest in Europe in terms of capacity, and will strengthen the Catalan club’s position both sportingly and economically.
