AP-7 Closed: Tanker Spill Causes 13km Traffic Jams

by Archynetys World Desk

The collision between a car and a tanker truck transporting diesel has kept the AP-7 closed since Saturday at 2 p.m. At 9 p.m. on Sunday it was still causing 13 kilometers of traffic jams. The cut occurred between L’Ametlla de Mar and l’Ampolla (Tarragona) and, although it did not cause any serious injuries, it did cause significant delays throughout the weekend, especially during the return operation.

Six fire crews rescued the truck driver on Saturday and neutralized the fuel leak, but the work to remove the vehicle lasted throughout the weekend.

A Chemical Risk Van from the Firefighters’ Technological Risk Intervention Group has traveled to the scene of the crash to supervise the maneuvers. There have also been the presence of various tankers to transport the cargo, which has forced the road to be cut in both directions.

The operation was completed around 7 p.m. on Sunday, but at the end of the day the vehicle was still on the road. After removing the fuel, it was still necessary to clean the road while the crane worked to remove the truck.

The vehicles have been diverted along the N-340 highway, which has caused several kilometers of delays throughout the weekend. The Catalan Traffic Service has recommended the alternative use of the C-12 and the C-44.
