Zelensky & Trump Meeting: Confidence High

Trump explained that both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin are both “serious” about a peace plan.

He also guaranteed that Ukraine will have “solid” security guarantees in the event of a peace plan, adding that there is no deadline other than the end of the war. “Either we end this or a lot more people are going to die. Nobody wants that,” said Trump, noting that he is “in the final stages” of a peace plan.

Donald Trump also guaranteed that Ukraine will receive “solid” security guarantees if a peace plan is reached to end the war that began almost four years ago with the Russian invasion.

“There will be security guarantees. They will be solid. And European countries are very involved,” said the North American president.

The US president said he expected a quick meeting, recalling that the two will still speak to European leaders, before speaking to journalists again.
“I will also call President Putin back after the meeting, and we will continue with negotiations,” Trump said.

Volodymyr Zelensky was also optimistic, stating that the two countries’ negotiating teams on Trump’s 20-point plan, presented about a month ago, worked hard and achieved good results.

Asked about Russia’s recent violent attacks on Kiev, Donald Trump downplayed the bombings, recalling that Ukraine has also attacked Moscow.

This afternoon, two hours before meeting with Zelensky, Trump spoke to Putin on the phone, simply saying that it was “good and very productive”.

Washington and Moscow “share the opinion” that a temporary ceasefire “would only prolong the conflict”, the Kremlin then mentioned, lifting the veil on the eventual message that Trump will give to Zelensky. He also urged Kiev to take “a courageous decision” on Donbass, to “put an end” to the war.

The Kremlin added that the two presidents, Russian and American, will speak on the phone again after the meeting between the American and the Ukrainian.
